Freediving Courses
1 Star Course
The purpose of the AIDA * Freediver course is to familiarise freedivers with the skills, knowledge, basic safety procedures, techniques and enjoyment of breath hold freediving. Students will be introduced to the main competitive categories of freediving including Static Apnea, Dynamic Apnea and Constant Weight freediving.
Basic course outline:
Maximum Depth 10 metres
The one star course covers a lot of the 2 star theory and practice. So we will teach the whole 2 star course instead, (which includes an exam), and then give either a 1 or 2 star certification depending on performance.
You don’t have to be a 1 star freediver in order to do the 2 star course, but after 2 star you have to do each level.
The other option is to do the 2 star course and if you can’t reach performance requirements you can come back another time and do ‘freediver development’ programs that are cheaper and help you to get to the 2 star levels.
2 Star Course
This course is designed to be an introduction to freediving for students who are already confident and happy in the water. It aims to help the student freediver develop the skills and knowledge necessary to enjoy freediving safely.
Basic course outline:
Maximum depth 20 metres – minimum 16 metres
This course covers more knowledge development, and is taught to the standards required, this takes 3 ½ - 4 hours. There is also an exam which takes 20 mins- an hour depending on ability. It can be either taught in 1 long session, or in 2-4 sessions.
Static session/ Dynamic session.
This can be taught together in the pool. We should allow at least 2 hours, maybe up to 3 if there is a large group. Or they can be 2 separate sessions
2 Open water sessions off a boat
3 Star Course
This course is designed to continue a freediver’s training beyond the level of AIDA ** Freediver. The aim of this course is to help the student freediver develop the skills and knowledge necessary to plan and participate in freediving activities, independently with similarly experienced freedive buddies.
Basic course outline:
Maximum depth 30 metres – minimum 24 metres
The Knowledge development takes a while, about 4-5 hours, plus an exam. This is done over two days as it is quite intense.
Static/ dynamic sessions
Again, this can be done at one time, although sometimes for the 3 star it is better as 2 sessions, lasting 2 hours for the static and 1-2 for the dynamic
Open water training- 4 sessions over at least 2 days - a minimum of 4 days to complete the course.
